OSHA Training in the US Virgin Islands

Worker safety for private companies in the US Virgin Islands is regulated by the Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). The US Virgin Islands operates a state OSHA program (VIDOSH) exclusively for territorial employers.

OSHA Regulations and Standards

Organizations regulated by Federal OSHA follow the health and safety standards in 29CFR, including but not limited to, the OSHA workplace poster requirements in Part 1903, OSHA injury and illness recordkeeping requirements in Part 1904, general industry standards in Part 1910, maritime standards in Parts 1915, 1917 and 1918, construction standards in Part 1926, and agricultural standards in Part 1928. The VIDOSH Program has adopted identically all Federal OSHA standards and regulations applicable to public sector employment.

Jurisdiction

The Virgin Island State Plan applies to all territorial government agencies throughout the Virgin Islands, including Public Authorities, Fire Departments and School Districts.

Federal OSHA maintains jurisdiction over all private sector workplaces as well as federal agencies, maritime employers such as shipyards, marine terminals, and longshoring; military facilities; and the U.S. Postal Service.
